The U.S. Coast Guard published MSIB 08-20 Change 1 on 03/30/2020.
Here's what you need to know;
REC Centers: Regional exam centers are closed until further notice. All applications need to be submitted online via e-mail. Appointments should be rescheduled.
Merchant Mariner Credentials: MMCs (National & STCW) that expire between March 01, 2020 and July 31, 2020 are extended until October 31, 2020.
Medical Certificates: National Medical Certificates that expire between March 01, 2020 and July 31, 2020 are extended until October 31, 2020. STCW Medical Certificates continue to be valid for 3 months from the expiration date in accordance with STCW Regulation I/9.
What if my credential is currently expired? Mariners who are actively working on an expired credential, that fall within the dates above, must carry a copy of MSIB 08-20 with them at all times along with their expired credential.
Should I still submit my renewal? Absolutely! Do not wait until the last minute and get delayed going back to work.
